Well....you have to start somewhere.... so here I am.. November 27, 2007. Not really a date of any particular significance, but a starting point nonetheless...
So, in about a month and a half, I'll be moving away from my home of the last 18 years- Victoria, BC- to pretty much the other side of the world- Cairo, Egypt- so I thought this might be a good way to keep everyone updated on what's going on and a handy vehicle for sharing stories, adventures and photos and maybe making some new friends along the way.
For those of you who don't know Victoria, it is the best city in the entire world...the air is clean, the ocean is no more than 10 minutes away no matter where you live, breakfast is one of the most popular meals to go out for and there are tons of restaurants that do it really well, and best of all you can exercise outside all year round. There is a huge athletic community here with races of some sort almost every weekend, and it's not unusual to be warming up before a race, only to see a world-class athlete stretching right beside you (the city is something of a Mecca for them, especially triathletes!!) - this is something I'll miss terribly when I leave.
Ummm....so why leave, you ask? This is the exact question I've been wrestling with over the past few months... my career is taking me overseas, and while I will definitely come back (hopefully soon!), this is a move I need to make, and this is the perfect time to do it. I could go on and on about pros and cons etc, but that's already happened- and obviously the pros won. I am now looking forward to a hugely exciting adventure in a new city, country and culture. So, stay tuned, you might want to skip the next few weeks though...they might be a little boring, lots of stuff do do before I leave...it'll start to get interesting mid-January (I hope!). I'll leave you with a picture of a crazy cross country race that I watched last weekend...the Gunner Shaw at Thetis Lake
